Applications

70-volt distributed speaker systems are the standard architecture for commercial and institutional audio installations — office buildings, schools, hospitals, retail stores, restaurants, and houses of worship. In a 70V system, a central amplifier drives multiple speakers wired in parallel over long cable runs without significant signal loss, with each speaker's tap transformer setting its individual power draw. The Bogen SM4T is a classic example of this format, designed for ceiling-flush or surface mounting in drop-ceiling environments where unobtrusive, even sound coverage is needed across a large space. Bogen Communications has been a long-established name in commercial paging and intercom equipment, and the SM4T was widely deployed in school PA systems and office paging installations from the 1980s through the 2000s. These speakers remain fully compatible with any modern 70V amplifier or paging system.
