The Bertan 210-05R is a rackmount DC high voltage power supply offering a continuously variable output from 0 to 5,000 volts at up to 40 milliamps. A front-panel polarity reverse switch allows the output to be set to either positive or negative high voltage without rewiring, making it well suited for applications that require polarity switching between fills or test runs. Output voltage and current are both monitored on a single dual-scale analog panel meter. The unit accepts 115V or 230V AC input, selectable via a rear-panel switch.

Applications

High voltage DC power supplies in the Bertan 210 series are used in laboratory and industrial applications that require a precise, adjustable high voltage source with controllable polarity. This model saw service in a ring gyro (ring laser gyroscope) filling station operated in a clean room environment — a demanding application in which stable, programmable high voltage is needed to ionize and maintain the gas discharge within the gyroscope cavity. Beyond gyroscope manufacturing, this class of supply is used in ion beam systems, mass spectrometry, electron optics, electrostatic deflection, particle detection, photomultiplier tube bias, and general high voltage research. The remote analog and digital programming ports make the 210-05R suitable for automated test setups where voltage must be swept or controlled by an external source. Bertan Associates (later part of Spellman High Voltage) produced this series from the 1970s through the 1990s as a laboratory-standard adjustable HV bench and rack supply.
