Description
Bay Networks 5310A Ethernet NMM Board System 5000 Enterprise Switch RS-232
The Bay Networks 5310A/SA is an Ethernet Network Management Module (NMM) board designed to install in the Bay Networks System 5000 (Enterprise 5000) modular chassis. The NMM provides Ethernet segment monitoring and network management functions within the System 5000 backplane, giving administrators visibility into up to 12 Ethernet segments. The board carries a silk-screened designation of "5310 ENET NMM BRD" and includes an RS-232 management port on its faceplate for out-of-band access.

Applications
The Bay Networks System 5000 (also marketed as the Synoptics/Bay Networks Enterprise 5000) was a high-capacity modular Ethernet hub and switching chassis widely deployed in enterprise LAN environments during the mid-to-late 1990s. The NMM board served as the management intelligence of the chassis, connecting to the backplane and enabling SNMP-based monitoring and configuration of the Ethernet segments hosted in the chassis slots. The RS-232 port on the faceplate provided a local console or modem connection for out-of-band management. Bay Networks itself was formed from the merger of Wellfleet Communications and Synoptics Communications in 1994, and the System 5000 platform carried forward Synoptics' LattisNet and SynOptics hub heritage. These boards are sought today primarily for maintaining legacy Bay Networks System 5000 installations still in operation, as spare or replacement modules for enterprise sites that have not yet migrated to modern switching infrastructure.
This Bay Networks 5310A Ethernet NMM Board has been visually inspected and shows typical wear consistent with prior use in a networked environment. The PCB, components, and faceplate are intact with no obvious physical damage. The RS-232 DB25 connector and faceplate label are in good shape. It has not been powered up or tested at our facility, but it was pulled from a working environment. Board only — no chassis, cables, or accessories are included.
