Applications
The Socket 7 platform was the dominant PC desktop standard from roughly 1993 through the late 1990s, supporting a wide range of processors from Intel (Pentium 75–233 MHz), AMD (K5, K6, K6-2), and Cyrix (6x86, MII). HP used OEM-configured Asus boards like the SPAX-M in its Pavilion consumer desktop line during the mid-to-late 1990s. This board is suitable for restoring or repairing an HP Pavilion 4440 system, retro PC building, or vintage computing projects. The combination of PCI and ISA slots makes it compatible with a broad range of period-correct expansion cards — sound cards, video cards, modems, and SCSI adapters from the era commonly used these bus types. Socket 7 also marked the final generation of the shared Intel/AMD/Cyrix CPU socket before each manufacturer diverged onto proprietary platforms, making it a historically significant and well-supported form factor among retro computing enthusiasts.
This Asus SPAX-M Socket 7 motherboard has been tested at our facility and is in good working condition. It was pulled from an HP Pavilion 4440 desktop system. The board shows typical age-related wear consistent with a mid-1990s system board — light dust and minor surface oxidation on the gold PCB are normal for equipment of this era. No broken traces, bent pins, or damaged slots are visible. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
