Description

ASUS S370 REV 1.01 Slot 1 to Socket 370 CPU Converter Adapter Card

The ASUS S370 is a CPU converter card that allows a Socket 370 processor — such as an Intel Celeron (PPGA) or Pentium III (FC-PGA) — to be installed in a Slot 1 (SC242) motherboard. It bridges the physical and electrical gap between the two interfaces, letting users upgrade or repurpose Slot 1 boards with the more widely available Socket 370 CPUs. Revision 1.01 is visible on the PCB silkscreen.

Applications

The ASUS S370 was designed in the late 1990s during the transition from Intel's proprietary Slot 1 cartridge format to the smaller, lower-cost Socket 370 form factor. Slot 1 was introduced with the Pentium II in 1997 and used a large Single Edge Contact Cartridge (SECC); Socket 370 arrived shortly after for the Celeron line and later the Pentium III, offering a more traditional socketed design. Converter cards like the S370 were popular among builders and upgraders who wanted to run a Socket 370 Celeron or Pentium III in an existing Slot 1 board without replacing the motherboard. They are still sought after today by vintage PC enthusiasts, system restorers, and collectors working with late-1990s Intel platforms based on the 440BX or 440LX chipsets.
