Description

ASUS S370-DL CPU Card Processor Board Socket 370 Rev 1.02 Slot 1 Adapter

The ASUS S370-DL is a CPU daughtercard that adapts a Socket 370 processor for use in a Slot 1 motherboard. It plugs into a standard Slot 1 connector and provides an onboard ZIF socket to seat Intel Socket 370 Celeron (PPGA) or Pentium III (FC-PGA) processors, allowing older Slot 1 platforms to run newer Socket 370 CPUs without a motherboard replacement. Revision 1.02 is confirmed on the board label.

Applications

The S370-DL was designed in the late 1990s to bridge the transition from Intel's proprietary Slot 1 form factor to the more cost-effective Socket 370 package. Slot 1 was introduced with the Pentium II and originally required a bulky SEC (Single Edge Contact) cartridge processor. As Intel migrated the Celeron and later Pentium III to the smaller Socket 370 pin-grid array package, adapter cards like the S370-DL allowed system builders and upgraders to fit the newer, cheaper Socket 370 CPUs into existing Slot 1 boards — extending the useful life of late-1990s Intel 440BX, 440ZX, and 440EX chipset motherboards. These cards are still sought by collectors and hobbyists maintaining vintage late-1990s ATX and microATX systems built around Slot 1 platforms.
