Applications

The Late 2009 iMac 27" was Apple's first 27-inch all-in-one consumer desktop and represented a significant step up in screen real estate and performance for its era. Running OS X Yosemite, it remains capable for everyday productivity tasks — web browsing, email, document editing, photo management, and light media work — and is compatible with a wide range of older Mac software. Its large 27-inch IPS-quality display makes it useful as a secondary workstation or a media center. The SuperDrive handles CDs and DVDs natively, and the rear Mini DisplayPort outputs support an additional external monitor. This generation was popular in home offices, creative studios, and educational settings throughout the early 2010s and continues to see use in legacy Mac workflows and as a cost-effective entry into the Apple desktop ecosystem.
