Apple M7649 Studio Display 17" LCD Monitor 1280x1024 ADC TFT Flat Panel

The Apple M7649 Studio Display is a 17-inch TFT LCD flat panel monitor designed specifically for use with Apple Power Mac systems. It connects via Apple's proprietary ADC (Apple Display Connector), a single cable that carries video signal, USB data, and DC power together, eliminating the need for a separate power brick. The M7649 was produced by Apple Computer around 2001 and features the signature translucent acrylic housing that defined the Power Mac G4 era aesthetic.

Applications

The Apple Studio Display M7649 was designed as the companion monitor for Power Mac G4 towers and early Power Mac G5 systems equipped with an ADC-output video card. ADC was Apple's own single-cable display interface introduced in 2000, combining DVI video, USB, and power into one connector to reduce cable clutter on the desktop. It was used heavily in creative professional and design environments — desktop publishing, video editing, and graphic design studios — where the clean, minimal aesthetic of the Power Mac G4 setup was popular. Because ADC was Apple-proprietary and relatively short-lived (replaced by DVI by 2004), these monitors require either a Power Mac with an ADC video output or a third-party ADC-to-DVI adapter (with external power) to run on modern systems. They remain collectible as icons of early-2000s Apple industrial design and are still sought by vintage Mac enthusiasts and collectors.
