Applications
The Power Macintosh 8500 series was Apple's professional-grade tower line of the mid-to-late 1990s, introduced in 1995. Built around the 64-bit PowerPC 604e processor, it was aimed at graphic designers, video editors, and power users who needed more headroom than the consumer-grade 7500 line offered. The 8500 was notable for its built-in AV capabilities — onboard composite and S-Video input and output made it a popular platform for desktop video work at a time when that required expensive add-in cards on competing systems. It ran Mac OS 7.5 through Mac OS 9.1 and supported a wide range of professional creative and desktop publishing software of the era. Today these machines are sought after by vintage Mac collectors, retro computing enthusiasts, and those maintaining legacy Mac OS 8/9 software environments. A unit missing its hard drive is a common starting point for a restoration build using a period-correct SCSI drive or a modern SCSI-to-SD/CF adapter.
This Apple Power Macintosh 8500/180 (M3409) tower is being sold as-is, incomplete. The internal hard drive and Zip drive are missing, and there is no operating system installed. The CD-ROM drive is present. The chassis and exterior panels are in good cosmetic shape with normal wear for the era — the bezel, side panels, and rear panel all look clean in the photos with no visible cracks or heavy damage. This unit is well-suited for parts, a restoration project, or someone who already has a compatible hard drive and plans to reinstall Mac OS.
