The enclosure, internal wiring harness, and grey 24VDC Anderson-style connector are all intact and functional. The original batteries have been removed and disposed of — this unit ships as an enclosure only and does not include batteries.

Applications

APC Smart-UPS XL external battery packs were designed to extend UPS runtime well beyond what the internal battery alone provides — a common requirement in data centers, server rooms, network closets, and any environment where uptime is critical during extended power outages. The SU24XLBP connects to compatible Smart-UPS XL units via the grey 24VDC Anderson connector and adds a second battery string in parallel with the UPS's internal pack. This type of enclosure is still widely sought after for extending aging Smart-UPS XL systems, and the enclosure itself has a long service life — owners routinely replace the battery cells multiple times over the life of the chassis. Standard replacement batteries for this enclosure are 12V 17–18Ah sealed lead-acid cells (two required in series for 24VDC total), which are widely available from battery suppliers.
