Description
American Optical 3525 HS Delineascope Opaque Projector 115V 1100W 1000W Lamp
The American Optical 3525 is an "HS" Delineascope — a high-intensity opaque projector made by the American Optical Company, Instrument Division, Buffalo, NY. Unlike overhead projectors that require transparent acetate sheets, an opaque projector reflects light off solid, opaque flat materials — books, photographs, drawings, maps, or artwork — and projects the enlarged image onto a screen or wall without any copying or preparing of transparencies. This unit is rated at 115V/60Hz with a 1100W draw and a 1000W projection lamp.

Applications
The Delineascope was a widely used tool in American classrooms, art studios, and drafting rooms from the 1940s through the 1970s. Teachers projected pages directly from textbooks, maps, and magazines for classroom instruction without any need to make transparencies. Artists and illustrators used opaque projectors to trace and scale drawings onto canvas or paper — a technique that remained popular even after overhead projectors became common, because no intermediate step was needed. Drafters used them to transfer design details. The American Optical Company was one of the premier optical instrument manufacturers in the United States, and their Delineascope line was considered the professional-grade standard in the category. These projectors are still sought after today by artists, illustrators, and collectors of vintage optical and educational equipment.
This American Optical 3525 HS Delineascope opaque projector has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The unit shows the normal wear you would expect on vintage equipment of this era — the gray textured housing looks intact and complete with no obvious damage. The large objective lens and lens assembly appear clean and undamaged. The original American Optical Company fabric dust cover is included and in good used shape. This unit has not been powered up or tested at our facility, but it was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use.
