Applications

The Agilent ESA series — introduced in the late 1990s and spanning into the early 2000s — are mid-range portable spectrum analyzers covering frequency ranges from 9 kHz up to 26.5 GHz depending on the model. They are widely used in RF and microwave engineering, telecommunications testing, EMC pre-compliance, component characterization, and field service work. The ESA-E models (E4402B through E4407B) cover up to 26.5 GHz, while the ESA-L models (E4401B) cover up to 1.5 GHz, making the series applicable across a broad range of wireless, cellular, and general RF lab tasks. This User's Guide covers front-panel operation, marker and limit-line functions, measurement personalities, and remote programming basics — the essential daily-use reference for any ESA operator. These instruments were later rebranded under the Keysight Technologies name following the 2014 Agilent/Keysight split, so this manual is also searched under the Keysight ESA name. Original printed manuals are increasingly sought after for labs maintaining ESA instruments in service.
