Description
Adaptec AHA-1740 EISA SCSI Controller Card 68-Pin External AIC-7770 Chipset
The Adaptec AHA-1740 is a full-length EISA-bus SCSI-2 host adapter built around Adaptec's AIC-7770 controller chipset. It provides Fast SCSI connectivity via a 68-pin external (HD68) port and dual internal 50-pin IDC headers, allowing a host system to connect a broad range of SCSI-2 peripherals including hard drives, tape drives, optical drives, and scanners. The chip label visible on the main controller reads AHA-1740 S23 / 479100 D with a date code of 9239, placing manufacture in late 1992.

Applications
The AHA-1740 was designed for EISA-bus workstations and servers of the early-to-mid 1990s — a generation of high-performance PC-compatible systems from manufacturers like Compaq, HP, AST, and others that used EISA as an alternative to ISA for higher bandwidth expansion. EISA provided 32-bit bus access at 8.33 MHz, and host adapters like the AHA-1740 took advantage of that bandwidth to drive multiple Fast SCSI devices simultaneously, making it a common choice for small departmental servers and CAD workstations of the era. The AIC-7770 chipset was Adaptec's workhorse EISA SCSI controller, supporting bus mastering DMA for reduced CPU overhead. Today these cards are sought by collectors and hobbyists maintaining legacy EISA-based systems, as well as industrial and scientific environments where older EISA workstations remain in service driving legacy SCSI instruments or storage arrays.
This Adaptec AHA-1740 EISA SCSI Controller Card has been inspected and appears to be in good condition. The PCB is clean with no visible damage, broken traces, or missing components. The 68-pin external SCSI connector and internal 50-pin headers look intact. The bracket has a handwritten "SGL" label. Normal light handling wear is present consistent with prior installation in a workstation or server. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions. Please note: We have multiple units in stock — yours may not be the one shown in the photos, however, it will be similar in condition and function.
