Applications
IEEE 1394 (FireWire) was the high-speed peripheral interface of choice in the late 1990s and early 2000s, particularly for digital video workflows. Laptop users of that era who needed to capture DV footage from a camcorder, transfer files to a fast external hard drive, or connect DVD burners relied on CardBus adapters like the AFW-1430A to add FireWire capability to machines whose manufacturers hadn't built it in. The OHCI-compliant NEC controller gave broad compatibility across Windows and Mac platforms. Today, this card remains useful for anyone maintaining legacy DV editing setups, archiving miniDV tape footage, or connecting older FireWire-only audio interfaces and storage devices to a CardBus-equipped notebook.
