Applications
The Abekas A42 series was a staple of professional broadcast and post-production facilities throughout the 1990s. These digital disk recorders allowed editors and engineers to store uncompressed or lightly compressed digital video for frame-accurate playback, slow-motion effects, and editing-suite integration — replacing older tape-based VTRs for short-form content and effects work. The A42EX variant offered expanded capability within the line, and units like this were commonly found in television broadcast stations, post-production houses, and network affiliate editing suites. Today they remain of interest to broadcasters maintaining legacy SDI infrastructure, vintage AV collectors, and engineers working with period-accurate production systems from the early digital broadcast era.
This Abekas A42EX Digital Video Disk Recorder was pulled from a working broadcast or post-production facility where it had been previously in use. It has been visually inspected and photographed. The unit shows surface scuffing and cosmetic wear on the chassis consistent with years of professional use — normal for equipment of this type and era. No bench testing has been performed at our facility, so it is sold as-is with no functionality guarantee. Please review all photos carefully and contact us with any questions before purchasing.
