Applications
The ABB ACS355 series is a micro drive intended for machine builder and OEM applications including material handling conveyors, food and beverage processing lines, and the processing of rubber, plastic, and wood. As a variable frequency drive, it controls AC motor speed and torque by varying the output frequency and voltage, which reduces energy consumption and mechanical stress compared to across-the-line starting. The sensorless vector control mode gives it strong low-speed torque capability without requiring a feedback encoder — useful in applications where precise speed regulation is needed but adding an encoder is not practical. The ACS355 family dates from the 2000s–2010s and remains a widely deployed drive in light industrial and packaging machinery worldwide. It is a drop-in replacement candidate for other ACS355 units of the same rating and is compatible with ABB's range of fieldbus adapter modules for integration into PLC-controlled systems.
