Universal surface readout display unit for measuring open channel flow velocity and direction. Accepts input from Marsh-McBirney current meters and displays dual analog readings for angle and magnitude of water movement.

Applications

The Model 500 was designed for hydrological field measurement of surface water velocity in open channels, streams, and rivers. It pairs with Marsh-McBirney current meters to provide real-time flow data for water resources monitoring, hydraulic studies, and environmental assessments. Common in USGS operations and water management programs through the 1980s and beyond.

Condition: Used
This Marsh-McBirney Model 500 Universal Surface Readout has been inspected and is in good used condition. The aluminum rack-mount chassis shows typical age-related wear consistent with a unit manufactured in 1981 — light surface scuffing on the front panel and chassis exterior. The two analog panel meters (Angle and Magnitude) appear intact with no cracked or broken lenses visible in the photos. The rear connectors and multi-pin DIN connector show normal use wear.
